These terms are the agreement between you and Olu ("we") for usingOlu at oluchat.com. By joining you accept them, together with our privacy policy and safety rules.
1. Who can use Olu
- You must be 18 or older. If you tell us, or we find, that you are younger, the account is closed for good.
- You need a working email address, confirmed with a code we send you through our email provider. It is used only for sign-in codes and important account messages and is never shown to other people.
- One person, one account. Don't make a new one to get around a pause or ban.
- Give true answers when you join. Your first name can be a nickname, but not someone else's identity.
2. What the service is
Olu pairs you at random with a person in another country for a text chat, and translates messages automatically. When no person is free, or while your account is paused, you may be paired with an AI local. AI locals are always labelled as AI; they are not real people and what they say is not advice.
Translation is done by machine and can be wrong. Don't rely on it for anything important: medical, legal, financial or emergency matters.
3. How to behave
You agree not to:
- harass, threaten, insult or bully anyone, or send hateful content;
- send sexual content, or talk to anyone about sex who hasn't clearly wanted it;
- ask for or share phone numbers, social media handles, addresses or other contact details in chat (friends can keep in touch inside the app);
- involve, sexualise or look for anyone under 18 in any way;
- spam, advertise, scam, ask for money, or impersonate anyone;
- use bots or scripts, scrape the service, or try to break or overload it;
- upload a photo that isn't of you, or that you have no right to share.
4. Moderation, pauses and bans
- Messages pass through automatic filters and may be stopped before they are delivered.
- You can report or block anyone. Reports end the chat and are reviewed. Enough reports with evidence pause your account from meeting people for a while; you can still talk to AI locals and friends, and you can appeal.
- We ban accounts for serious breaks of these rules. A ban always shows the message it was based on. Bans can be appealed and a person reads every appeal, except bans that protect minors, which are permanent.
- Deleting your account does not remove a ban; we keep the ban record so that it can't be escaped by deleting and joining again.
More detail is on the safety page.
5. Your content
What you write and upload stays yours. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, translate, deliver and display it as needed to run Olu and keep it safe. If you agree to make an Ask the World answer or an exchange card public, that licence covers showing it publicly (Ask the World answers without your name; exchange cards with your first name and flag). The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for records we must keep for safety (see the privacy policy).
6. Miles, badges and passes
Miles, badges, ranks and filter unlocks are for fun. They have no money value, can't be bought, sold or transferred, and we may change or reset them.
7. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from your profile (Delete my account). We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the law. Sections 5 (for what we must keep), 8, 9 and 10 survive the end of your account.
8. No warranty
Olu is provided "as is". We work to keep it running and safe but can't promise it will always be available, that translations will be accurate, or that every person you meet will follow the rules. The people you chat with are responsible for what they say. Take care before trusting a stranger, and never send money to anyone you met here.
9. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for what other users do. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud. If you use Olu as a consumer, you keep all rights your local consumer law gives you.
10. Law and disputes
If something goes wrong, email us first and we will try to sort it out. Nothing in these terms takes away rights the law of the country you live in gives you.
11. Changes and contact
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect; continuing to use Olu after that means you accept it. Questions: help@oluchat.com.
